The EDCTP Association, in collaboration with the Global Health EDCTP3 Joint Undertaking, is holding an in-person Financial and Project Management training workshop from 18 to 20 May 2026, in Johannesburg, South Africa for Global Health EDCTP3 grant holders. 

This training is aimed at Principal Investigators, Project and/or Financial Managers of GH EDCTP3 projects who are:

  • Employed by Southern African institutions that are beneficiaries on current GH EDCTP3 project(s)
  • Play a key role in managing GH EDCTP3 grant(s), such as (scientific) coordinator, principal investigator, project manager, finance manager for the project at the African beneficiary
  • Nominated for the training by the principal investigator at the African beneficiary and the Project Coordinator.

Course objective and expectations

The main objective of the financial management section of this course is to strengthen financial management capacity of course participants by providing them with the financial management knowledge and skills required to satisfactorily manage financial aspects of EDCTP3  projects (Horizon Europe Funding Framework), including helping their institutions comply with the financial reporting requirements.
The main objective of the project management section of this course is to strengthen the project management capacity of course participants by providing them with the knowledge and skills required to satisfactorily manage technical aspects of EDCTP3 projects (Horizon Europe Funding Framework), including helping their institutions comply with the technical reporting requirements.

The training workshop will cover the following topics:

Project management topics

  • Introduction to the EDCTP Association, the objectives of the Global Health EDCTP3 programme and how the programme is implemented

  • The Grant agreement and the roles and responsibilities of the beneficiaries

  • Annex1 dissected including deliverables and the ethic self-assessment

  • Reporting (periodic and continuous), documentation (key deliverables)

  • Dissemination and exploitation, open access and data sharing

  • Amendments

Financial management topics 

  • Introduction to financial management, including key financial management related differences between H2020 and Horizon Europe

  • Budgeting

  • Eligible and ineligible costs and contributions

  • Types of payments, payment arrangements, calculations of amounts due and enforced recovery

  • Reporting

  • Internal controls

  • Auditing

We invite EDCTP3 beneficiaries in Southern Africa to register for the training in Johannesburg. Applications will be accepted based on the availability of places, with priority given to individuals and institutions that have limited experience in managing EU (GH EDCTP3) grants. 

Details of applicants who were not selected will be held on a reserve list until the end of the EDCTP3 programme  in case additional training places become available.

Please follow the steps below to register for the training. Registration will close on 27 February 2026, 5pm CET. We advise you to register as soon as possible as places are limited. Importantly, registering for the training does not guarantee that you will be offered a training spot. Owing to the high demand for places, EDCTP cannot enter into correspondence about individual applications and application outcomes.

4. Photography at finance and project management training event
Photographs of the trainees may be taken at the event and shared with participants and in EDCTP newsletters and reports.
